Copperfest 2008
Thousands of revellers braved heavy rain and wind to be part of Copperfest 2008. Our free bank holiday festival was once again held at the Port. More than 3500 people braved the elements to watch Bryn Fon, Frizbee, Transmission, Transit, Chwarter Call and Long Shot.
Another 2500 turned out to watch the Sunday night show which included Celt, Steve Eaves, Meinir Gwilym, The Coffin Dodgers and the Bootleggers. Friday evening, expecting to be quiet, saw a turnout of more than 1000 to watch an array of local talent. We were pleasantly surprised with the turnout for the whole weekend to be honest, well exceeding last year.
The difficult weather conditions placed a question mark on whether or not the festival would go ahead, but the organisers rallied together with helpers and the community to ensure that the show went ahead.
We could not have achieved everything without the help and support of all local business who sponsored the event, and in particular, our main sponsors, Magnox North Wylfa Site, MAD Sound and Lighting, Bwrdd Y Iaith Cymraeg, and Amlwch Communities First.
It is going to be a difficult to raise the standards next year. The bar has been set quite high!
